Google Tech Talks
November, 16 2007
This talk describes techniques that use model checking and symbolic
execution for test input generation. Abstract state matching is used
to avoid generation of redundant inputs. The techniques handle complex
data structures, arrays, as well as multithreading, and generate
optimized test suites that satisfy user-specified testing coverage
criteria. The techniques are applicable to both (executable) models
and to code, and can be used in black box or white box fashion. We
have applied the techniques to generate test sequences for
object-oriented code and to generate test vectors for NASA software.
Speaker: Corina Pasareanu
Corina is a Research Scientist at NASA Ames Research Center, in the Robust Software Engineering Group, employed by Perot Systems Government Services. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from Kansas State University. She is currently investigating the use of abstraction and symbolic execution in the context of the Java PathFinder model checker, with applications in test input generation and error detection. She is also working on using learning techniques for automating assume-guarantee compositional verification. Her other research interests involve the design of a command execution language and the verification of the associated execution system (PLEXIL).

The 2nd Annual Google Test Automation Conference (GTAC) in our New York office on August 23 and 24, 2007
Simon Stewart - Web Driver
Faster than a speeding bullet! Easier to maintain than something that’s really easy to maintain! Reliable! That’s what we want from our tests, but how do we get there? This presentation covers key strategies and patterns for writing test suites using WebDriver, a developer focused tool for web application testing similar in spirit to Selenium RC. We’ll cover why it was written, the problems it addresses and how to integrate it into your projects and testing process.
Simon Stewart lives in London and works as a developer for ThoughtWorks, specialising in Agile development and Test Driven Development. His Open Source contributions include the original integration of WebWork and Spring as well as WebDriver. He enjoys writing better software and beer, sometimes at the same time.

Testing Distributed Systems with AJAX, XML - Lessons Learned from Google Checkout
Martin Omander, Jason Huggins
Google Checkout is a good example of a distributed system involving several websites, the end user experience being powered by Ajax interactions, synchronous and asynchronous web services. Automating functional testing for that kind of architecture is a challenge. In this session we will provide an overview of the Google Checkout product and API, then present Mendoza, an open source testing framework that we use for functional testing of Checkout API integrations, using Selenium and a java test server. Mendoza has been designed in a generic way and can be leveraged to perform functional testing of any distributed system of similar architecture.
